Teachers in non-ELA content areas often find it difficult to incorporate meaningful writing into their coursework while still covering the objectives dictated by the curriculum and state-mandated testing. As a result, many are reluctant to spend class time writing, citing “It’s not my job to teach writing!” or “How am I supposed to include writing in an already-packed day and curriculum?” This presentation offers ideas and activities that seamlessly incorporate writing tasks that not only build critical thinking skills but also improve student retention and long-term memory by actively engaging students in the learning process.
